Malta Independent Friday, 11 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The HSBC Malta Foundation is supporting the annual visit by the President of Malta Dr George Abela and Mrs Abela to Maltese patients receiving treatment in the UK.

During their visit, the President and Mrs Abela will call personally on all the patients and their families currently in the UK for treatment. The Presidency is also hosting a reception at the Corinthia Hotel Northall Brasserie in London in honour of all the consultants, Maltese doctors and medical professionals who treat Maltese patients in the UK.

“These professionals take exceptional care of Maltese patients receiving treatment in the UK and their personal care and attention is deeply appreciated at such a vulnerable time for both patients and their families,” said Dr Philip Farrugia Randon, a Director of the HSBC Malta Foundation, when he presented the donation to the President, along with Alan Richards, HSBC’s Chief Executive. “Consequently, the HSBC Malta Foundation thought it most befitting to financially support this event in appreciation of their sterling work.”

Around 300 Maltese patients receive treatment in the UK every year. The patients and their families often receive support from the Malta Community Chest Fund to help them face the ordeal which medical treatment in a foreign country brings with it.

The President’s visit is organised to show solidarity with the patients undergoing treatment. President Abela and Mrs Abela will be staying with patients and their relatives at the Franciscan Sisters in London.

President Abela thanked the HSBC Malta Foundation for its support and financial assistance to the Malta Community Chest Fund and children in particular.
