Last week Dar Sagra Familja in Zabbar was struck by a magic wand as over 25 local companies got together with JUGS Malta to completely renovate the children`s living quarters just in time for Christmas.
Following the successful launch of the JUGS & Friends CSR activity last year and due to numerous requests, JUGS & Friends launched their second CSR initiative. The chosen beneficiary this year was the Children’s home, Dar Sagra Familja.
JUGS and Friends is a concept launched last year by Gianni Zammit and Josef Gafa` of JUGS Malta Ltd., one of Malta’s leading creative team building and event organising companies. “After the success of last year`s event, we wanted to go bigger and better. We truly believe that collective effort is greater than the sum of the individual parts and with JUGS & Friends we are able to take on bigger projects and make a marked difference.” said Gianni Zammit, Director at JUGS Malta Ltd. “This belief was reinforced the minute the children walked into their brand new rooms and could not believe that this was for them!”
“The children are so much happier in their new environment. Their faces lit up when they saw their new rooms. They simply love the colours!” says Sister Bernadette, mother superior at Dar Sagra Familja. She explained how the children are used to getting ‘hand-me-downs’ and till today still cannot believe that these rooms have been done up especially for them. This has been a dream come true!”
Dar Sagra Familja is home to 11 children. The Home aims to offer the children shelter and stability, and depends on volunteers and donations to keep its doors open and to provide the best for the children. The living quarters at Dar Sagra Familja had been subjected to wear and tear over the years and were in dire need of an upgrade, especially since the furniture was well over 30 years old; kindly donated by a hotel when they were refurbishing. The JUGS & Friends CSR project this year involved completely re-outfitting the children`s main living quarters, including 2 big dorm-like bedrooms, their study room and their living room and play area. The rooms were stripped, repainted with bright, fun colours and fitted with brand new furniture.
After months of preparation the team got to work on realising the project. The event was split over two days. Teams from over 10 companies took on the task of painting the new rooms, whilst a few days later the home was invaded once more with volunteers from another 15 companies to assemble the furniture and put in the final touches. After a couple of hours of hard work, all volunteers were invited for some fantastic fair at the Home, provided courtesy of Island Caterers.
“The event not only provided a sense of satisfaction in giving a little back, but we also had loads of fun and a good laugh. It was great to spend some time with colleagues outside of the office environment” commented one of the participants.
“We are overwhelmed with the great response we have had from this CSR initiative. All the hard work and long hours it took to organise was all worth it! We would like to thank everyone who supported us, gave a helping hand and made all of this possible,” concluded Josef Gafa` from JUGS Malta Ltd.
