In line with its commitment to support local art and artists, Valletta Fund Management Limited (“VFM”) sponsored Luciano Micallef’s glasswork and recent paintings exhibition entitled Metaphors. The exhibition was inaugurated on the 11 May 2012 at the artist’s own gallery.

Luciano’s realistic style of painting has evolved into abstraction using bold and colorful composition. The artist has exhibited in museums and private galleries in Europe, Asia, Austria and the USA and in 1996 he inaugurated his own private gallery in San Pawl tat-Targa, Malta. He believes that the gallery provides an opportunity for the artist to interact with people interested in art.

David E. Cooper, a former professor of philosophy who has written widely on art and aesthetics commented “how the finished glasswork emerges depend on firing temperatures whose effects cannot be fully controlled. Or, again, the forms taken by the glass when still warm and malleable are unpredictable”. “The resultant aesthetics of imperfection is what fascinates Luciano’s enthusiasm for this aspect of glass”, he continues.

Presenting the sponsorship, Mark Vella, Head of Business Development at VFM said, “We are pleased to support Luciano Micallef in his exhibition” and congratulated the artist on exploring different mediums to present his work.

Luciano Micallef’s expressed his appreciation towards VFM for the sponsorship and the Company’s ongoing commitment towards local art and talent.
