Christine Scerri recently successfully completed her post graduate studies at the University of Derby, UK specialising in Careers Guidance. As a practitioner in the field of careers guidance, working with students at post secondary level Mrs Scerri feels this experience has provided her with a great opportunity to formally and rigorously reflect and improve upon the guidance service offered within her work place. Gaining a better understanding of the latest practices in careers guidance and applying new methodologies will help create tools and systems which will help to better equip young people to insert themselves in todays labour market context.

The studies were completed through online distance learning however Mrs Scerri had the opportunity to travel to the UK were tutors at the University of Derby organised visits to local community guidance centres and secondary schools, which provided ample opportunities for familiarisation and exchange of best practices with the career services provided within these institutions.

This programme of studies was carried out with the assistance of a scholarship, awarded under the Career Guidance Capacity Building Scholarship Scheme. The scholarship was part-financed by the European Union, Operational Programme 11 – Cohesion Policy 2007-2013 “Empowering People for More Jobs and Better Quality Life” – ESF 1.24.
