Amalgam – A collective exhibition of hand-painted furniture and paintings

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

‘Amalgam’ is a collective exhibition of hand-painted furniture and paintings organised by the Willow Tree Group led by Charlotte and Gina.

Adrian Camilleri, Cecile Pinto and Biba Popov are invited artists within the Group whose work together with that of Charlotte Dimech and Gina F. Ficur is being presented in the spacious foyer of Cavalieri Hotel in St Julian’s.

The exhibition is open to the public from Saturday 14 July to Friday 17 August. The event is quite particular and perhaps peculiar as hand-painted furniture is presented next to landscapes, abstracts and imaginative picture making. The full colour 24 page catalogue documents the event that will be inaugurated by art critic Mr. E. V. Borg on Friday 13 July at 7.30pm.

The hand-painted furniture section by Charlotte Dimech is easily recognisable from standard floral and vegetable motifs painted in a naïve style. In the same section Gina Ficur who hails from Serbia has an essentially Eastern European oriental style that echoes traditional and folkloristic indigenous culture. Adrian Camilleri in a romantic, sentimental and lyrical strain paints idyllic haunts that resonate in their tranquillity and serenity. Cecile Pinto is inspired by Turner’s abstracted landscapes and in line with the master, she tries to create atmosphere and mood. The collection by Biba Popova a professional artist is mythical, visionary and dreamy in a simple but fantastic naive style.

Artistic multicultural events unite us in our diversity and variety. They serve too to stimulate co-operation, strike friendships and nourish brotherhood. Such events whet our appetite to explore, stimulate our curiosity in fantastic and fabulous lands that cast a spell on travellers keen to experience folkloristic, traditional and historic cultures.
