Sicily Trip

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

In May a group of 50 Grade 9 students from San Andrea School, together with their teachers, went on an educational day trip to Sicily. This was a trip they had been looking forward to since the start of the scholastic year, since it was a reward trip for those students who had shown good behaviour throughout the year.

On arriving at Pozzallo, the students made their way by coach to the city of Archimede, Siracusa. Their first stop was the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, where they saw the Greek theatre, the Latomia del Paradiso, the huge cave called the Ear of Dionysius as well as the Roman amphitheatre. After that, they proceeded to the Museo Archaeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi. The students were fascinated by the large amount of pottery and sculptures found. They were also excited to find an artefact originating from the Tarxien temples.

After lunch at Ortigia, with the help of a guide they explored the main attractions of the island. At the Duomo, apart from exploring the catherdral, they also saw a Sicilian wedding taking place. To finish off the trip the students visited one of the many ice cream parlours for a refreshing and delicious ice cream.
