Gozo chooses its Tourism Worker of the Year

For the fifth consecutive year the Gozo Tourism Association organised the annual event during which the Tourism Worker of the Year is awarded. This annual award is bestowed to the worker in the tourism sector on Gozo, who distinguishes himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties in the touristic sector.

This year, it fell upon by Joseph Tabone, aged 42 years, a Food and Beverage manager in a leading restaurant on Gozo, to win this prestigious award. The winner was officially announced by Dr Anton Hili, chairman of the adjudicating board, in the presence of Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, other distinguished guests and GTA members.

The main objectives of this award are to acknowledge the service given by the employee during the performance of his duties in the Gozitan touristic sector, and to acknowledge the employee who with his performance and his qualities was a role model for his colleagues.

Another aim is to reward the employee who through his performance is not only enhancing his place of work, but is also instrumental in improving the touristic industry on Gozo. This award is also intended to recognise the employee who in the performance of his duties, entices confidence in a career in the tourism sector.

Minister Debono presented the award to Mr Tabone, commending his achievement, while also giving merit to all the nominees and all those who work within the tourism industry in Gozo.

Those present were addressed by Paul Scicluna, chairman Gozo Tourism Association, Christine Vella senior head, MTA Gozo Office, who read a message on behalf of Josef Formosa Gauci, MTA CEO, and Marcel Bonnici ETC, department manager Northern Region.

Mr Tabone was selected by the adjudicating board from among seven nominations, including five men and two women, coming from different Gozitan touristic sectors
