MFCC to build €10 million conference centre in Ta’ Qali

A new conference centre spread over 38,000 square metres will be constructed in Ta’ Qali adjacent to the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre. The project is expected to take five years to complete and aims to attract conference tourism.

The site chosen for this €10 million project was till now used as a motocross track by Assocjazzjoni Sports Muturi which will now relocate its facilities to a new site, double the size. MFCC will cover the cost of relocation estimated to be around €250,000.

The announcement was made during the signing of the agreement between MFCC directors and Lands Minister Jason Azzopardi, through which government passed on to the company the 28,000 square metres of land.

The temporary emphyteusis agreement is for 65 years, with MFCC paying €186,000 in the first year. The sum will gradually increase up to €470,000 by the end agreement. The emphyteusis was granted following a resolution in parliament.  

Dr Azzopardi said lauded this investment and remarked that businesses are the backbone of the economy. He added that since 2007 there was a significant increase in the number of commercial licences issued, as a result of the various government incentives.

MFCC director Reuben Caruana and Gerard Borg, managing director of the company said that this investment will create more job opportunities both in Malta as well as abroad. At present the company employs about 200 people.
