A further 7,000 square metres of land at Wied Inċita in Ħ’Attard are being regenerated through a €1.4 million investment as part of plans for a public park covering more than 90,000 square metres.
The second phase of the project is being carried out by Ambjent Malta and will transform a neglected area into an accessible recreational space for families.
The works follow the completion of the first phase, which created a 20,000-square-metre open recreational area.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli visited the ongoing works and said the project would continue to expand Wied Inċita while protecting its rural and ecological character.
The second phase includes the restoration and rebuilding of traditional rubble walls, landscaping works, the pruning of existing vegetation and the installation of new irrigation systems.
Walking routes will also be improved, while outdoor furniture, recreational facilities and additional safety and accessibility measures will be introduced.
Hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs suited to Malta’s climate will be planted across the site.
These will include oak, pine, carob, myrtle and chaste trees, together with Mediterranean shrubs and aromatic plants.
The project will also seek to strengthen biodiversity by creating habitats that provide food, shelter and breeding areas for insects, pollinators, birds and reptiles.
Dalli said the investment was intended to create more open spaces where families could spend time together and children could experience the natural environment close to their communities.
The works form part of a wider masterplan to transform more than 90,000 square metres at Wied Inċita into a public park providing recreational, educational and ecological facilities.
