A PN billboard was set on fire last night in Rabat while obscene words directed at Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi were sprayed on the Mdina bastions.

It is understood that forensic police were called to the scene of the vandalised billboard.

Following the mass meetings on Sunday, a 35-year-old mother of four was assaulted in front of her children after one of her children, 11, uttered the phrase “jaqq laburisti” on seeing a group of flag-wielding PL supporters.

On hearing her remark, the group of men approached the child's mother and accused her of failing to raise her children properly which saw the incident escalate to the extent that one of the men snatched money out of her hands, while another spat at her and hit her in the face with a soft drinks bottle.

She suffered bruising as a result and was referred to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.

Nationalist MP Beppe Fenech Adami was also a target of vandals last month when his Birkirkara front office door was set alight and slightly damaged as a result.

Reacting to the incident, he said that he would not be intimidated by such acts.
