First case of horse-meat traces in food reported in Malta

In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, and following information received via the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that the following product may contain traces of undeclared horse meat.

The Company involved was instructed to withdraw the batch in question from the market, however since it reported that not all consignment has been withdrawn, as it is done in these cases, this Directorate is obliged to inform consumers of this recall.
