National security minister Manuel Mallia will be attending the Eurovision final.

The Malta Independent Online had first got wind of Dr Mallia’s interest in attending the festival last Tuesday, but no announcement was made until Gianluca safely sang his way through the semi-final. 

Dr Mallia will be joining the Maltese delegation, but sources close to PBS denied that the visit was being made solely for the minister to watch the final.

A statement by the ministry later confirmed Dr Mallia's attendance.

A spokesperson said that the minister will be going to Malmo in  order to meet Ingrid Deltenre, the director general of the European Broadcasting Unit (EBU).

The meeting is being held "in order to discuss the final details of the general assembly of the EBU, which will take place in Malta in June," the spokesperson said.
