The police have launched an appeal for information in relation to the murder that took place in Marsa this morning.

An e-kit mock-up of one of the suspects has been issued. Police said that the suspect is a 5’8" tall Caucasian, medium to well built.

During a press conference held this evening, assistant police Commissioner Pierre Calleja said that two suspects are being sought.

One suspect carried out the shootings while the other waited in a nearby van, before fleeing the scene and torching the vehicle in Hamrun.

The van was stolen from Msida in January, and it was using number plates with the registration number IBJ- 352 stolen from yet another vehicle in Marsascala.

Mr Calleja appealed for more information, particular in the timeframe between 10am and 12pm.

Mr Calleja explained how the shooter on foot fired five shots at Mr Degabriele. Three hit him in the face, and another two in the upper body.

A person accompanying Mr Degabriele managed to alight from the Toyota Hilux when the shooting occurred, escaping unharmed. 

Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit allayed any fears that the public may have, saying that the murder was clearly premeditated, and was not just a random shooting.
