British Red Cross donates an ambulance to the Malta Red Cross

Malta Independent Sunday, 7 July 2013, 08:04 Last update: about 12 years ago

The South East division of the British Red Cross has donated one of their ambulances to the Malta Red Cross. Now going by the name` Molly`, Malta Red Cross volunteers drove her down to Southampton port where it was handed over into the good hands of Sullivan Maritime. It then began its voyage by sea to Malta and arrived at its new home last week.

The Malta Red Cross are currently upgrading all their ambulances in order to be in line with the new recommended standards and regulations issued by the EU.

“We are firm advocates for ensuring that all recommended standards are adhered to, when it comes to health care and safety measures. These standards are there for a reason and at the end of the day could make or break a situation in an emergency. We would never take that risk,” said Robert Brincau, Malta Red Cross’ operations director.

Molly now joins the recently launched Mobile Clinic, ‘Cetta’ and all the other ambulances and rescue vehicles, each playfully nicknamed, which are kept at the Pembroke headquarters of the Malta Red Cross.

The Malta Red Cross Society is a voluntary, non-governmental organisation. For this reason it relies heavily on support from the local community in terms of both donations and volunteers in order to make its work possible. The organisation is constantly looking to enrol new volunteers. The society can be found on Facebook.
