Bogus e-mail doing the rounds

Malta Independent Friday, 13 September 2013, 08:52 Last update: about 12 years ago

A number of people have reported receiving phishing (spam) e-mails with the aim of luring Vodafone users into filling out their login and password details in a bogus “Vodafone Malta” form.

Although the e-mail may seem genuine, since it states that it has been sent from Vodafone Malta’s customer care unit, it’s a hoax and the fact that one is unable to even click on the form gives the phishing attempt away.

Contacted, a Vodafone Malta spokesperson said it is aware of the bogus notification email that has been hitting users’ inboxes and has notified its clients on its official Facebook page warning them of the phishing attempt.

If you provide information in response to this email, you could fall victim to credit card fraud or identity theft. Vodafone does not send emails asking for customer confidential information, credit card details, or user names and passwords.

The email e-mail states: ‘Vodafone Malta: Please Update Your Details!!!: Click onhttps://internet.vodafone.com.mt/portal/page/login.html to update your details’.
