Stefano Mallia files libel case against l-Orizzont

Malta Independent Friday, 11 April 2014, 08:57 Last update: about 12 years ago

Stefano Mallia today presented a libel case against l-Orizzont after the newspaper published a report entitled: ‘Company in which Stefano Mallia was a director: €2.5 million in contracts over 5 years’. This report was published with the intention to tarnish Stefano Mallia’s reputation, the candidate for the EP election claims. The report is part of a mud-slinging campaign, aimed towards both the leader of the PN, Simon Busuttil and MEP candidate Stefano Mallia.

Stefano Mallia has commented on this incident by saying: “This is an example of the most shameful way in which politics can be done. I entered politics to be a positive force. If anyone finds that I have acted in any way dishonestly I will withdraw my candidacy immediately because I am here to be of service to my country. It is a shame that the Malta Labour Party that was so vocal about the need of fair politics that is not played out on personal levels are now conducting such personal attacks on me. It is shameful that l-Orizzont, a supposedly independent newspaper, is today participating in this mud-slinging campaign. I truly hope that one day politics will become more positive and of greater relevance to the people because this is what the people want but unfortunately the Malta Labour Party has not noticed this and keeps on echoing the politics of the past,” concluded Stefano Mallia.
