Video emerges of a potentially dangerous situation when a bus passes through a narrow road

A massive bus caused havoc in a Rabat (Malta) street recently, causing danger to pedestrians and traffic alike.

The video shows a Maltese bus passing through a narrow street nearly colliding with oncoming vehicles due to the constrained area. The road has been identified as Gorg Borg Olivier street in Rabat.

The bus literally goes over the pavement, not only blocking vehicular traffic, but does not allow passage for pedestrians.

Photos of the bus show a woman literally trapped in a doorway with no way of moving until the bus passes.

The video was taken last Saturday. As can be seen in the images, vehicles on the opposite side are unable to pass and the bus itself comes dangerously close to hitting the buildings.

Contacted by this newsroom, the Rabat Local Council said they have been pressuring Transport Malta and relevant authorities for years to try and solve the issue in this street. Vice Mayor Doris Coleiro explained that the old Maltese busses, prior to Arriva, used to have problems. The Council said that solutions for this problem must come from Transport Malta as the Council do not have the authority to do anything about it.

The Vice-Mayor explained that this is the only street in Rabat really facing these sort of problems.

Rabat Mayor Charles Azzopardi argued that the alternative would see traffic pass through Rabat centre, which would also cause a number of problems. “The road is what it is,” he explained. He said that 13 years ago the government came with an idea for traffic management and this very proposal through the centre, however it faced heavy opposition.
