275 primary school boys and girls had the opportunity to speak with Environment Minister Leo Brincat today on the occasion of Environment Day.

While only a small number of children had the same opportunity last year, 275 children had the opportunity to express their thoughts on the environment at the Marsascala Family Park.

The absolute majority of children said that they don't believe food that is good for a persons health should be thrown out of Supermarkets, but rather that it be given to families in need.

In light of all this, the Minister is looking into whether Supermarkets in Malta can follow in France's footsteps and be obliged to donate food that is still good to families in need, rather than throw them out.

"The children recognised the significance of World Environment Day and the majority of children enjoy discussing the environment, so much so that they bring up discussions with their parents at home".

"This confirms that future generations are already placing importance on the environment from such a young age, which will lead to a better future," the Ministry said. "Children would also like to see more environment-oriented television programmes".

"Meetings like these confirm that politicians have a lot to learn from children," the Ministry added.

The Minister appealed to the children present stating that children, along with their families, must make changes in order to help improve the environment, by recycling, wasting less energy, eating food from sustainable sources etc.
