Visitmalta has recently reached 500,000 fans on its Global Facebook page. More than half a million people now actively follow and engage with Visitmalta regular updates, the majority of which expressed their affinity for the Tourism Authority’s official Facebook page within the last 24 months.
The growth has been impressive since the previous milestone of 200,000 fans registered in July 2013. In less than two years, the number of fans increased by more than 150%. As expected, the demographic reach is strongest amongst the younger generation, with 47% of the fans being aged between 18 and 34 years. However, 72% of the page fans are within the age bracket of 18-44 years, whilst another 24% are aged 45 years or older. It is also worth noting that about 60% of the fans are female.
Visitmalta’s Global Facebook page communicates with its fans in 6 languages, in English, Italian, French, Spanish, German and Russian. Out of the 500.000 fans, less than 2% are located in Malta, which means that this social media tool is truly communicating with MTA’s primary target audience overseas. Our popular Visitmalta portal also complements the promotional efforts on our social media platforms and is currently available in 12 languages.
Commenting on this achievement, MTA CEO Mr Paul Bugeja said “Over the past few years the Malta Tourism Authority has been devoting more resources in order to maximise the benefits which our Islands can reap from the world’s largest social media platform. Through the use of Facebook, the MTA’s community managers can communicate and promote the Islands by means of images, interesting facts, event information and other important info on a daily basis. It also serves as a platform where we can communicate regularly with persons who are considering coming to Malta as well as offer a service whereby fans can ask questions and receive advice both from other fans and from the community managers administering our FB page.”
