7 died in Mater Dei corridors between January 2014 and April 2015; 8 under PN in 2012 - Mizzi

Seven people died in the corridors of Mater Dei Hospital in the period between January 2014 and April 2015, Health Minister Konrad Mizzi said in reply to a series of parliamentary questions put by opposition MP Claudette Buttigieg.

Speaking in parliament, Dr Mizzi reminded the opposition benches that in 2012, when the PN was in power, eight patients died in the corridors of Mater Dei. He also said that in that year, some 8,118 patients were administered treatment in corridors, in sharp contrast to 2014, when 2,500 patients were treated in corridors. Answering another question put by Dr Buttigieg, Dr Mizzisaid that the corridor linking the Emergency Department to the Medical Imaging Section had a capacity of 35 beds and that the occupancy rate between January 2014 and April 2015 was 43%.
