All yellow badge disability holders will receive a 2/3rds fare reduction, Justyne Caruana, the parliamentary secretary for persons with a disability announced today.

Prior to this, only blue badge holders qualified for the discount.

Dr Caruana said the reduction will see a weekly €6.50 fare go down to €2.00.

Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said both the government and the operator always kept the social aspect of the service being offered in mind.

Not only have fares not increased, but certain advantages have been introduced through the Tal-Linja cards, Mr Mizzi said.

He said there is still room for improvement in the service being offered, and new routes will be introduced once Malta Public Transport receives its new buses.
