The government said that the publication of the internal audit investigation department’s inquiry on the Gaffarena property deal will not be in breach of any law.

Following a story published today in The Times which claimed the contrary, the government said that articles 14 and 22 of the law setting up the IAID stipulates that although the IAID cannot publish the report itself, it is the Prime Minister’s prerogative on whether to publish it or not. In this case, the Prime Minister has said that he will be publishing it.

The investigation is on a deal the government made with Mark Gaffarena on the transfer of property in Old Mint Street, Valletta. Gaffarena was compemsated with cash and land for half of the Valletta property.
