Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds, Ian Borg met with State Secretary for Foreign and EU Affairs to Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, Hans Dahlgren in one of his meetings held in Stockholm, Sweden, during which Malta’s presidency for the EU Council in the first 6 months of 2017 was discussed in depth.
Ahead of that, Dr Borg outlined Malta’s preparations and highlighted the priorities within the EU framework. This includes latest developments on illegal immigration and strengthening cooperation between neighbouring countries across the Mediterranean. Dr Borg and the Swedish State Secretary discussed the excellent relationship that currently exists between Malta and Sweden; something which can be strengthened even more during Malta’s presidency tenure.
During his stay in Stockholm, Dr Borg met with high officials at the Office of the Swedish Prime Minister, officials at the Swedish Ministry of Justice to discuss aspects surrounding immigration, as well as with officials at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation to discuss EU Regional Funds.
The visit came to an end when Dr Borg met members on the Committee on European Union Affairs and with members of the Swedish Institute of International Affairs
