Nationalist Party criticises government on changes to bill on fostering

Saturday, 13 June 2015, 16:54 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Nationalist Party today criticised Family Minister Michael Farrugia after he said he intended to revamp the Child Protection (Out-of-Home-Care) Bill which had been prepared by his predecessor Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

The bill mainly deals with the fostering of children.

In a statement, Opposition spokesmen Paula Mifsud Bonnici and Robert Cutajar said the fact that a minister wanted to change a bill prepared by a fellow member within his own Cabinet was unusual.

The changes the minister was planning were a departure from the text which government and opposition had found agreement upon and showed the minister was out of touch with events on the ground, the PN said.
