A woman was conditionally discharged after damaging her estranged husband’s car by throwing a perfume bottle and canned food during an argument.

The court heard how the couple argued on 28 August 2011 after the woman refused to allow the man to see his son. The two were undergoing separation proceedings and the woman was refusing him access to the child because he was not paying child support.

The man lodged a report claiming that his Land Rover Freelander’s windscreen and paintwork was damaged. The woman told the police that she had thrown a perfume bottle and canned food at her former husband during an argument over access to their son.

The man told the court that he had forgiven the woman and wanted to withdraw the charges but the case had to continue because of the extent of the damage to the vehicle.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard the woman say her husband insisted on seeing his son. He remained outside the apartment and hurled insults at her. She grabbed the first item she found and threw it at him from the balcony.

Noting the fact that her husband had forgiven her and her clean criminal record, the Magistrate discharged the woman for two years. Police Inspector Carol Fabri prosecuted.
