Watch: Front Harsien ODZ reiterates call for government to publish Sadeen group agreement

Front Harsien ODZ today reiterated its call for government to publish the heads of agreement signed between the government of Malta and Sadeen Construction Group with regards to the development of a university campus currently being proposed in an outside development zone in Zonqor Marsaskala.

Addressing the media outside parliament, a representative of the Front Harsien ODZ Michael Briguglio said that they had called for the immediate publication of the agreement - which was announced some seven weeks ago by the government in a supersonic way - some three weeks ago but to no avail.

Charlo Cassar – a Marsaskala councillor who is also a member of the movement – explained that Mepas CEO admitted to an Environment Parliamentary Committee earlier this week that he was directly involved in the drafting of a site selection report. He said that it is a major concern that the CEO did not rope in the Environment Protection Directorate within Mepa and other experts in the field for that matter.

He said that this is a threat to basic transparent governance principles.

“It is also shocking that the authors of the report are not identified and the terms of reference have not yet been published,” Mr Cassar said, adding that the CEO was reluctant to give information on who was the planner and architect behind the report.

“The report was brief and lacked details,” he continued.

Mr Briguglio meanwhile highlighted that at least the CEO is expected to name the 100 sites which are being assessed which could 'fulfil' the needs of the project during the next Environment Parliament Committee meeting.

“All we have in hand till now is a ghost report,” he continued, referring to the selection site report.

In a last-ditch effort, the movement called on the public to attend the protest being held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Valletta. The movement said that a number of NGOs were to attend the protest along with politicians representing all the political parties.
