Instead of taking immediate action and telling holding those who supplied the weak concret at Binja Buqana in Imtarfa responsible, the government has appointed another inquiry led by the “supposedly independent” judge Philip Sciberras, a former PL MP, the PN said in a statement.

The Shadow Minister for Social Policy, Paula Mifsud Bonnici, said that instead of prolonging the case, the government should take immediate action. “The immediate action should be to take steps against those who provided the weak concrete.”

Dr Bonnici said the Opposition was challenging the government to take action immediately if it really held the residents’ interests at heart. She also questioned how engineering firm ARUP was appointed to carry out the testing works and if a public call had been issued.

The PN again asked why judge Sciberras was appointed to lead the inquiry when “everyone knew” that he could never be independent since he was appointed to a number of boards by the PL government. The judge could never bite the hand that fed him, Dr Bonnici said.
