As from September, MCAST will start offering courses in the Performing Arts, the President of the Board of Directors, Silvio De Bono, has told The Malta Independent.

In an interview that will be published tomorrow, Mr De Bono says courses will be introduced at Level 3 and will develop into higher qualification levels at a later stage. The Malta College of Arts Science and Technology will be announcing other new subjects in the 2015 Prospectus, which will be launched at the MCAST Expo that will be held between Wednesday and Saturday. Mr De Bono says that the college is already working on new subjects for the following academic year.

In the interview, Mr De Bono and MCAST Principal Stephen Cachia spoke about the college’s transformation, which revolves around the creation of three new colleges: the Foundation College, the Technical College and the University College. MCAST has been offering degrees for the past five years but will, as from September, also be offering Masters Degrees.

The 10 institutes are being reintegrated into six; a move which the two officials say will offer greater synergy between subjects and faculties. “If we do not evolve, MCAST would become irrelevant,” Mr De Bono said.

Mr De Bono and Mr Cachia also spoke about the ongoing work at the Paola campus, where another phase of the project is almost complete. They also said that the announced changes are crucial for MCAST’s future and insist that no one will be made redundant.

The interview also covers MCAST in numbers. More than 64,000 students have passed through the college’s doors since it opened in 2001.
