Young police officer charged with involuntary homicide of 32-year-old motorcyclist in 2014 accident

A 20-year-old police officer has been charged with the involuntary homicide of a motorcyclist following an accident in Mqabba on January 2014.

Jean-Claude Mangion, 20, was driving to work early in the morning when he hit motorcyclist Clive Brincat, a 32-year-old from Floriana. The man died instantly.

Subsequently, the police officer was charged with causing Mr Brincat's death through negligence, damaging the motorcycle, driving negligently and dangerously, over speeding and committing a crime he was duty-bound to prevent. 

The police officer pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. 

Lawyer Albert Zerafa appeared for the accused while lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha appeared parte civile for the Brincat family.
