Hollywood would make a feast out of the chain of scandals being revealed under a Labour government, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said this morning. “Each day, people wake up to see what’s new – one day it’s corrupt expropriations, the other government appointments. Not a day passes without a new scandal,” he said.

Speaking on Radio 101, Dr Busuttil said that the Labour government is making the Gaffarena and Zammit families protagonists and it is the public who is paying for the institutional corruption, which is taking the country back to the 1980s.

“This institutional corruption is tainting the reputation of a crucial institution – the police force. If the public is unable to trust the force, who else can they trust?” he questioned.

“Following the incident involving Manuel Mallia’s driver, Ray Zammit should have not been given any public appointments. But instead, the government chose to keep Mr Zammit director of Carradino, and has chosen to suspend employees he is now calling spies,” he said.

The Opposition Leader said that the government needs to insist for Police Commissioner Micheal Cassar to come up with a plan to regain the public’s trust in the police force immediately.

Dr Busuttil added that Micheal Falzon should have been asked to resign from parliamentary secretary, given he is a good friend of Gaffarena. He insisted that BOV needs to explain the obscene €250,000 early retirement scheme.

“It is no surprise that the agreements with Shangia Electrics and Electrogas were not tabled and that the agreement with Henley and Partners was only partially disclosed, “Dr Busuttil said.

“ The public has lost its trust in politicians, and the Nationalist Party promises to restore that trust,” he concluded.
