Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Justyne Caruana have launched new standards for accessibility in public buildings.
Dr Caruana explained that these standards occurred after a pocess that took around 18 months. The process included a public consultation in February 2015. She also mentioned that government will soon announce standards for homes for persons with disability, and work is underway regarding standards for everyday services.
"We want persons with disability to be at the centre of decisions that affect them, and this is why government passed a law for them to be included on boards and entities".
Minister Helena Dalli mentioned that this document is an example of inter-ministerial work. She emphasized the importance of equality of access, arguing that equal opportunities are not enough.
