Government officials refused to involve themselves in the case regarding Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg when they were contacted by a family member around a year ago. Dr Borg allegedly bought a piece of land from a mentally-ill patient for a low sum.
A family member of 66-year-old Anthony Scicluna (the mentally-ill patient) alleged that a meeting was requested with the Prime Minister on the matter around a year ago, and was granted. Instead of the Prime Minister however, this person claimed that his Deputy Chief of Staff Alexander Muscat met her.
The person alleged that Mr Muscat said that government does not get involved in these sort of issues as it was a private deal.
This newsroom called Mr Muscat, but he was unable to respond at the time and asked for an email to be sent. An email was sent asking for replies by 5pm yesterday, but no replies were received by the time the article was submitted. Several attempts to contact him by phone as the deadline grew near found his voicemail.
The family from Dingli is considering taking legal action in a bid to reverse the sale of the property to Ian Borg after they learned that their mentally ill father had been duped into selling the Cabinet member a piece of land for a suspiciously low price and under dubious circumstances.
The Scicluna family released a statement, following denials by Ian Borg, Franco Sammut and Mark Farrugia. The family said that they are sticking to their guns, alleging that what they said was the truth and are happy and willing to provide all evidence and documents to the courts.
