Promised change by this government did not come about – Marlene Farrugia

PL MP Marlene Farrugia said that if mistakes were made by this government in the past two and a half years, it should come clean and turn over a new leaf half way through its term to become “accountable and transparent”.

Dr Farrugia said that when the Labour Party was serving from the Opposition benches, we used to raise the same concerns on Mepa as PN MP Ryan Callus raised on Mepa today from the Opposition benches. She also pointed out that Mr Callus's speech was brilliant today.

“What I mean is that this government promised a change but this did not come about,” she said.

The electorate trusted us to see that we change things but this did not happen, she pointed out.

Regarding the civil service, she said that it annoys her a lot when she comes across public servants who state they are feeling unmotivated because friends of friends were being given promotions or certain posts while they weren't, despite having studied all their life.

She said that those who are rich get to breathe fresh air in the countryside daily because they would live in a villa but those with a minimum wage cannot afford to live in the countryside but at least should have the right to enjoy the countryside.

“This is why I am always fighting to protect ODZ zones,” she lamented.

"Some people may not understand me but my role as a backbencher is to scrutinise the government and that is exactly what I am doing," she said.
