Kajetan Poznanski, a Polish man suspected of beheading a woman in Warsaw who was arrested in Malta last week, is expected to be extradited to Poland tomorrow.
Polish media report that the man could be returned to his country in a military plane sent by the Polish government.
Last week, Poznanski did not contest extradition proceedings in the Maltese courts.
The 27-year-old man could soon face a trail in Poland over the brutal killing of a teacher of Italian in the district of Wola in the Polish capital.
Przemysław Nowak, a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, earlier said he was pleased at the rapid decision by the Maltese court. "We are pleasantly surprised by the speed of events – a speed that is unheard of in other European countries, including in Poland,” Nowak said.
Firefighters were called to a flat in Warsaw's Żoliborz district earlier this month after a blaze there.
They found the headless body of a young woman in a sack. A head was later found in a backpack in the same apartment.
Officers have suggested the blaze was a failed attempt to cover the murderer's tracks.
