The Nationalist Party today asked what is stopping the Prime Minister from taking real action against Minister Konrad Mizzi and chief of staff Keith Schembri, both of whom have been embroiled in what has been labelled as the Panamagate.

Addressing the media in front of a billboard the PN set up in various localities around Malta, PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami said that there are doubts as to whether the Prime Minister has been wholly informed about the companies the two opened in Panama.

“The fact that the Prime Minister has been caught lying and defending not only those who broke the law, but also that his right hand man and his left hand man were both found out to have opened a secret company in Panama since they’ve been in government, awakens serious suspicions” said Dr Fenech Adami.

It was also reiterated during the press conference that the allegations that the companies were opened at the same time Dr Muscat, Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri went together to Azerbaijan without taking any civil servant or members of the media with them. The deal made in Azerbaijan led to a €14m loss, according to the Auditor General.

Konrad Mizzi has admitted to breaching the tax law and the Prime Minister has said that no steps need to be taken against the minister, Dr Fenech Adami said.

PN Candidate Charlene Camilleri Zarb, who was also present, repeated the list of events for which Dr Muscat and Dr Mizzi were responsible:

·          The choice of the Electrogas consortium to build a powerstation costing around €450m;

·          A guarantee of €380m from the government to Electrogas;

·          The selling off of a third of Enemalta;

·          The selling off of the BWSC powerstation;

·          The selling of large amounts of land to Enemalta;

·          Contracts regarding procurement of oil;

·          Hedging contracts with SOCAR;

·          Selling of the Gozo General Hospital, St Luke’s Hospital and Karin Grech Hospital.

Another PN Candidate, Alex Mangion, spoke about the fact that the PL tried to ridicule the National Protest Against Corruption saying that it is to be heavily condemned due to the serious disrespect such ridicule brings to a large number of people, including PL supporters alike.

Mr Mangion also encouraged all to attend the demonstration in the name of removing Malta’s problem with corruption once and for all.
