Watch: MZPN ‘celebrates’ 3 years of PL government with ‘cake’ video, Labour reacts

Wednesday, 9 March 2016, 15:59 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Nationalist Party’s Youth Movement is “celebrating” three years of Labour government with a video that shows a party that is coming up with slick marketing ploys to counter the well-established Labour Party machine.

During the past election campaign, the Labour Party was overwhelming in its campaign, but the PN is seemingly catching up. The first signs were the billboards put up last week on the scandal involving the company set up by Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi.

And now the MZPN have come up with its own creativity. The one-minute video shows a cake on which the words “Happy Birthday Labour” are written. Then the cake is sliced up and hands are seen gripping huge chucks of the cake, underneath of which are reminders of the largest scandals that have hit the Labour government in the past three years.

The idea that is conveyed is that the few chosen ones are grabbing the national wealth while the rest of the population is left with nothing.

PL statement

Reacting, the Labour Party said the PN could not even get the anniversary date right.

“We celebrate the Labour government’s third birthday in two days’ time, when Joseph Muscat was sworn in as Prime Minister. The anniversary we are celebrating today is three years since when the Maltese electorate voted to get rid of BusuttilGonziPN – when people voted for an economy of 6.3% instead of Busuttil’s bailout.”
