Public Broadcasting Services have announced the acquisition of exclusive media rights on all platforms for UEFA EURO 2016TM in France this summer.
Live free-to-air coverage of the entire month-long tournament on TVMHD and TVM2HD as well as on the web portal and all mobile services.
"This will mean that viewers in practically every Maltese household and commercial outlet will be able to follow the complete story of the final phase of the 15th UEFA European Football Championship between June 10 and July 10. For the first time, 24 teams will take part in the final tournament: generating a total of 51 games, compared with 31 from the previous 16-team format, to be played over a period of 31 days".
"The finalists are drawn into six groups of four, with the group winners, the six runners-up, and the four best third placed teams advancing to the round of 16: when the competition becomes a knockout with direct elimination all the way to the final".
The matches will be played in ten stadia in ten cities: Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Étienne and Toulouse: with three viewer friendly kick-off slots: 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00. Both the opening match between France and Romania, and the final, will take place at the Stade de France (Saint-Denis). This is the third time that France is hosting the tournament, after the inaugural edition in 1960, and 1984. France have won the European Championship twice, in 1984 and 2000; while Spain are two-time defending champions".
