The new song by which Ira Losco will compete at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm was launched this evening.

Speaking to The Malta Independent this morning as the final preparation for the launch were being made at PBS, the popular singer said she was very excited with the new song, Walk on Water, which will replace Chameleon as Malta's song for the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Stockholm in May. The music video, which we had the opportunity to see, was filmed in picturesque localities and Ira Losco looked, as usual, stunning and confident in front of the camera.

Following harsh criticism from the public, especially by those hard-core Eurovision fans who were somehow disappointed by the board’s decision to change the song, Ira now wants all the support she can get.

Chief Executive Officer at PBS, Anton Attard, explained that this regulation to change the song was always available to all Eurovision competitors. Mr Attard explained that the song with which she won the local song contest, could find it hard to compete with the music quality on a European level.

“If you have a child that wins a school race, you don’t immediately send him to the Olympics,” he added.

He explained that the song undergoes a very rigorous process until it is chosen and that the whole point for hanging the song is to increase the possibility of winning.

In comments to The Malta Independent, Ira said that she enjoyed herself when the shots for the video were being taken and she is satisfied with the end result. We had more people than usual working on the video, although she did complain - with a smile - that there were days when she had to wake up early.

She believes that he new song is competitive, but one must remain cautious. It is what happens on the day, how the song is presented on stage that will ultimately determine its fate. She thanked all those who have supported her, and since Malta is a small country she needs all the Maltese living abroad to pick up the phone and vote for her on the night.
