Applications for the second edition of the Sustainable Enterprise Awards are open until the end of May.

The award has been organised by the Enterprise Policy and Schemes Directorate within the Ministry for the economy, investment and small enterprise together with the Cleaner Technology Centre at the University of Malta.

During the launch of the Sustainable Business Awards, Economy Minister Chris Cardona explained how the aim of the initiative is to acknowledge, promote and reward organisations who have provided a meaningful contribution to sustainable development. A sustainable enterprise is one that applies sustainable practices in its day-to-day operations.

These businesses made an effort to change certain practices for the purposes of contributing to a sustainable economy, Minister Cardona said. The reward will serve to entice other local businesses, in particular micro, small and medium enterprises.

He gave an overview of the economic achievements Malta has experienced over the last few years, such as a 6.3% increase in GDP for 2015.
