Maltese athlete Chris Mamo has run 20 marathons on consecutive days raising more than enough funds for 20 beds, that will be used for family members to stay overnight with their children while in hospital.
Concluding his marathon today, he was welcomed by doctors from Dr Klown, as well as very proud family members.
Crossing the finish line, he was greeted with loud cheers, clapping and doctors wearing clown noses.

Mr Mamo said he is a 33-year-old Anglo-Maltese personal trainer who served 12 years with Her Majesty’s British Forces. “I have always kept fit and healthy to some degree and pride myself on helping others realise their potential health and fitness goals. I have been living in Malta for four years now. I am engaged to the love of my life, Natassja, and stepfather to my precious princess Megan”.
His endeavour was supported by doctors from the Dr Klown initiative, who waved him off every morning and greeted him every evening, with some even running with him on occasion.

His father, Paul Mamo, was very proud of him. “He’s done it. He’s injured, but he’s done it”.
He ran around a total of 840 km, leaving at around 8 am each day, arriving back at around 14.00h, on occasion arriving later depending on his pace.
Speaking with this newsroom after his run, he felt exhausted. “Very tired, but very happy as well”.

“After the fourth day I suffered a swollen ankle, which developed into tendonitis. I also had a broken small toe, and a torn tendon.”
The goal and public support kept him going everyday, even when it got really hard.
“I teamed up with Dr Klown and there was a need for these beds in the wards”. It then turned into 20 marathons for 20 days, he said.

He plans on doing something next year, but hasn’t decided what it would be yet.
He had lost his sister a while back, and had to spend many a night sleeping on hospital chairs. “The idea of beds, kind of made sense,” he said.
