Prime Minister Joseph Muscat must step down in the wake of the Panamagate scandal, opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this evening in a televised interview.

As such, Dr Busuttil added, Sunday's national protest against corruption would still go on, irrespective of whether Energy and Health Minister Konrad Mizzi resigns or not over his involvement in the Panama paper scandal.

Dr Busuttil said that Sunday afternoon's national demonstration was a national call, and that, unlike the last such demonstration, he would not be the only speaker.   There will be other speakers from outside the Nationalist Party addressing the crowd.

Speaking on Net TV's Newsfeed discussion programme, Dr Busuttil said the buck for the scandal stops at the Prime Minister and he should, as such, shoulder collective responsibility for the things that have transpired under his watch - more so when the Prime Minister has failed to take action since the scandal broke weeks ago.  Not only that, Dr Busuttil added, but the Prime Minister was also continuing to defend Dr Mizzi and his chief o0f staff Keith Schembri, who has also been implicated in the scandal.

Dr Muscat, he said, has "surpassed all limits" and he was no longer fit to lead the country.

Turning to the opposition's motion of no confidence in the government, due to be discussed in Parliament next week, Dr Busuttil urged Labour MPs to support the motion.
