The Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian International Rescue Organisation and Canada Red Dear Search and Rescue. Over a five year period, this will cover future training collaboration between the two Ngo’s including joint overseas deployment under the United Nations mechanism. It will also provide opportunities for the international partners to participate in  exchange visits to ERRC.

Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela presided over the signing of the MOU said that this MOU is indicating that for the coming  years ERRC are making a commitment to give sharing of knowledge, experiences and skills the utmost importance so as to develop more competent rescuers.  

He noted that ERRC are proving that they are ready to step up their services in terms of preparedness and response, knowing that in case of national emergency they can be called upon to provide the assistance required.

“I am a firm believer in continuous self-development through training and other learning experiences not only locally but also on an international level. I commend such professionalism and passion towards the provision of aid to those in distress”, Mr Abela said.

During the same event the Minister for Home Affairs presented course certificates to members from ERRC, the Civil Protection Department and Police Force  after completion of course with ERRC on emergency response.

He urged the ERRC volunteers from Gozo to continue living up to their mission status: striving for the safety of others. 

“Keep thinking of what you can afford to give, than double it. Remain ambitious to raise the standards of the value of voluntary service which is selfless and noble”, concluded in his address Minister Abela.
