18 cruise liners berthed off Gozo in 2015, bringing with them just short of 10,000 passengers, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said this morning.

Speaking during a visit at the Mgarr harbour, he said many of these passengers could return after having seen what the island has to offer. Dr Refalo said three cruise liners would be arriving in Gozo over the weekend – the Seabourn Sojourn, Silver Spirit and Wind Surf.

The Gozo Minister said 2016 was also turning out to be another good year for cruise tourism in Gozo.

Cruise liner arrivals translated into more jobs and business in Gozo, including in the hotel and restaurant sectors.

Malta’s central location made it easy for the country to be included in western and eastern Mediterranean itineraries. Dr Refalo said the industry could grow further if the country keops offering a superior service and creates more value added in collaboration with all local operators.

Dr Refalo thanked all those who are involved in the sector, including Mifsud Brothers Limited, which has attracted some 52 cruises to Gozo since 2006.
