From a neglected Parish Centre in Safi, the Department of Public Works will be working on a holistic regeneration project for the Centre, aiming to restore it as the natural hub for the Safi community, the government said Friday.
During an onsite visit, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia announced that the building, currently in a dilapidated state, will undergo a holistic regeneration to once again serve the local youth, the elderly, and the voluntary organisations in the area.
"The Government firmly believes that in order to have a country of quality, we must strengthen unity and the sense of community at the heart of our localities. This is exactly what the regeneration project for the Parish Centre in Ħal Safi symbolises, as it will once again offer a modern and high-quality space for the Safi community," Farrugia stated.
The Mayor of Safi, Johan Mula, expressed his and the Local Council's satisfaction that a building dating back to the Knights of St John era will not only be preserved and regenerated, but also put to good use for families and the local Safi community.
The Parish Priest, Fr Ivan Scicluna, while thanking the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Works for leading the project, remarked that through this much-needed initiative, the Parish will once again have a space where youths and families can gather and spend quality time together.
The regeneration of this Centre will be carried out with an investment of €250,000.
