ifs Malta (Institute of Financial Services) announced their annual seminar, entitled The Pension System...the debate continues. The seminar will be hosted at the Hilton Spinola Suite St Julian's on Wednesday 22^nd June.

As the name implies, this forum will be picking up the discussion about pensions in Malta that was initiated last year delving deeper into the subject and the developments that has been undertaken since then

"Last year's conference instigated a widespread debate about the much talked about and badly needed reform in this sector. The seminar was a huge success and turned out to be a watershed event, acting as a catalyst to push pension reform high on the national agenda," explained Kenneth B. Micallef, President of ifs Malta. "Therefore, we felt it was opportune to take the conversation forward, and the speakers we have chosen for this event will definitely make valid contributions to the debate."

The Pension System...the debate continues will feature key speeches including Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat, Minister for Finance Prof. Edward Scicluna, Opposition spokesperson for pensions Dr Paula Mifsud Bonnici and other industry experts.

Topics lined up for the event include the Government's vision for an efficient public pension system and the extent to which it fits into Malta's sustainable economic development, the private sector's assessment of the current situation within existing laws and regulation and the advantages and disadvantages of introducing workplace pension schemes.

The seminar will feature two panel discussions, aimed at voicing the concerns of all pertinent stakeholders. The first panel sessions will take a more in-depth view of the pension landscape, whereas the second sessions will focus on opportunities and challenges for stakeholders.
