The Broadcasting Authority’s chief executive Pierre Cassar has resigned, citing the need to move on to pastures new.

Contacted by The Malta Independent, Mr Cassar said that he will be taking up a job as Director of Communications at the University of Malta.

He stays on at the BA until mid-September, by which time the process for employing his successor would have started. The BA needs to issue a public call for his replacement, according to law.

Mr Cassar denied reports in ither media that he had issues with the new chairman of the BA, Tanya Borg Cardona.

"We worked well together, will continue to work together until I leave. I had no problems with her," he said.

"I saw there was an opportunity for a new challenge, and I took it," he added.

Mr Cassar will be replacing Patricia Camilleri, who will be retiring.
