The Police on Wednesday appealed to the public to be cautious of scam and deceitful phone calls.

In a statement, the police said that these fraudulent calls are being made using ‘local’ (spoofed) numbers, pretending to be from police stations. The caller asks for personal and/or banking details.

The police said that if one receives these calls, they should not provide any personal details and, if in doubt, should contact the entity directly through official numbers.

The Police requested the media’s assistance to spread its appeal to prevent more victims of these scams.
