Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said that his proposal regarding the selling of Air Malta shares to the public is legal and viable and rebutted the Prime Minister's claim that this is not possible

PN Leader was giving comments to The Malta Independent following a visit to the University of Malta fresher's week.

On 9 June, Dr Busuttil had suggested that Air Malta shares should offered to the public so as to ensure the national carrier remains Maltese, and on 12 June Prime Minister Joseph Muscat criticised the proposal, questioning whether Dr Busuttil had sought any expert advice and whether the concept was even legal in the first place.

Today, Dr Busuttil said that the government should seriously consider this option, and not put it aside simply because this proposal is coming from the Opposition. "BOV sold shares to private investors, so this same model can be replicated with Air Malta for private investment."

Asked to react about the proposed €300 million masterplan for Paceville, Dr Busuttil said that the Opposition is still studying this proposal. He said the PN is in favour of having a masterplan and welcomed the idea. However, he expressed his concerns stating that there should be a level playing field for all. "We don't want this masterplan to be a collection of wish lists of those who were promised something by the government."

On land reclamation, Simon Busuttil said he is against it, because the public will have less public spaces to enjoy.
