A 27-year-old diver from Paola lost his life in a diving accident in Dwejra this afternoon. The incident took place at around 4.50pm.

The police said the man had found himself in difficulty while diving in the area.

The man was given first aid by two other divers who had been accompanying him and was brought ashore on an inflatable boat. He was then taken to the Gozo General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department were involved in the operation.

 

Magistrate Paul Coppini is leading an inquiry.
