Repubblika condemns PM’s ‘fascist comments’, PN leader says Abela should withdraw them

NGO Repubblika on Sunday condemned what it described as fascist comments made by the Prime Minister on the judiciary.

This morning, Abela said that justice should not be political terrorism, in what can be interpreted as a reference to the magisterial inquiry into the hospitals deal, which could lead to arrests.

In a statement, Repubblika expressed its concern, saying that the PM’s words were an attempt at intimidation and threats to the law courts.

A justice sector which is free, impartial and speedy is a guarantee of our liberty. Without justice, our country became a jungle in which the law is not equal to everyone.

What the PM said was unacceptable, Repubbblika said.

In separate comments, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said that Abela should immediately withdraw the comments he made about the judiciary.

Abela is trying to intimidate the judiciary and incite the people against them with the aim that justice is not done, Grech said.

In a previous statement issued by PN MP Karol Aquilina, spokesman for justice, the PN said Abela should say what is making him afraid and why he is so concerned with the judiciary's work.

The PN said it had full faith in the judges and magistrates, and insisted that Abela withdraws his comments.
"The irresponsible speech made by Abela is a result of the devilish pact he reached with Joseph Muscat," the PN said.
